Prospective students looking for a renowned university for Veterinary Medicine and agricultural studies should definitely apply to the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca.
Veterinary Medicine is a 6-year programme offered entirely in English or French and it is structured according to the EU standards. During the first three years the programme comprises a number of preclinical and fundamental theory courses on anatomy, biochemistry or animal biology, to name but a few. During the subsequent three years of study, the focus shifts to clinical and specialized subjects, such as infectious diseases, parasitic diseases or dermatology, among others. Moreover, the last semester includes practical training, which takes place in both university affiliated veterinary clinics and locations outside the University, such as dispensaries, farms, laboratories, slaughterhouses and points of processing, preservation and marketing livestock. At the end of their 6th year, students must also take the required state examination before they are awarded with a Master's Degree and the title of 'Doctor Veterinary Surgeon' (DVM). Subsequently, many graduates opt to continue with a specialization or PhD in Romania, not only due to the availability of funding and the low cost of living, but also due to the great demand for veterinary specialists in the agricultural sector of Romania and neighbouring countries, such as Bulgaria. The Degree is recognized globally, giving the opportunity to all graduates to practice in the country of their choice. Romanian Veterinary graduates are well-sought abroad due to the emphasis and experience their programme gives on industrial scale food production management and agriculture, besides domesticated (pets) animals, while hundreds of alumni have opened their own clinics in nearly every country of the world.
The credit system is compatible with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
